Cannabis Manufacturing Workers in New Jersey Join Union
Employees of Garden Society, a cannabis manufacturing company in New Jersey have become the first in the state to join Teamsters Local 469 union. The 40 workers, who cook and produce cannabis products, voted overwhelmingly to become union members, according to a news release.
Michael Broderick, President of Local 469, expressed that the workers chose the union to secure better contracts, fair wages, safe working conditions, quality healthcare benefits, and a path to retirement.
The Teamsters union has successfully negotiated over 30 collective bargaining agreements for cannabis workers since beginning its efforts to organize the industry. Jesse Case, director of the Teamsters Food Processing Division, emphasized that the union aims to create better career opportunities in the evolving cannabis industry.
Teamsters Local 469 currently represents more than 4,000 workers across northern New Jersey
